How do I convert *.wps files to Word format ?

I have several files from "Microsoft Works" that I would like to convert for
use in "Word". These files have a .wps extension. I am obviously new to
"Word" and could sure use some help. Thanks in advance.

If Word won't import the files correctly, as I have seen,
a good idea is to save the file in Works as Rich Text
Format (.rtf), which can be read beautifully by Word. (You
may have to change the "Files of Type" box in Word when
first opening the file.) Then save it as a Word Doc.
