Hi, Wisk,

The "ring" (actually a degree symbol) represents a nonbreaking space. Quoting
from http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm,

Adegreesymbolrepresentsanonbreakingspace(Ctrl+Shift+Spacebar),whichyoucan
usetopreventwordsfrombeingseparatedattheendofaline.

Actually, if you're seeing spaces *and* nonbreak spaces, there's a good
change the text was pasted from the Web, since this is not something you
normally get in Word.
