Footnote cross-referencing using supras

Hi, can anyone explain how I can cross-reference a footnote so that when
I refer to it later, the reference number will remain the same? (This
is hard to explain and I'm not sure "cross-reference" is the proper
word).

For example, I have footnote 2, later in my paper, I refer to that
footnotes a dozen times. Ie. The text of footnotes 25, 78, 104, etc.
says "supra, note 2". What if I make changes to the beginning and add
in more footnote, then footnote 2 becomes a different number? Can I
reference the future supra ones to change as well? Or does this have
to be done manually since it is in the footnote text?

This is a nightmare when referring to a couple of hundred pages
documents that will inevitably involve many revisions.

I am using Word in Microsoft XP.

Thanks in advance!
