With 97Word, I used to type in "Alt-230" for micron (for Greek) and
"Alt-248" for degrees (e.g., 38 Alt-248 C) for temperature. That keyboard
typing no longer works with XP-Word. Could someone advise me what to type
for degrees and Greeks letter (alpha, beta, gamma, micron, etc). James

Alt+0xxx combinations still work in Word 2002, but you do have to use the
numeric keypad keys; the keys on the number row at the top of the keyboard
don't work. To get a mu, however, you need Alt+0181. The degree symbol is
0176, but there is a built-in shortcut for that in Word: Ctrl+@, spacebar.

Suzanne,

You are super. Your advise to my previous posts on normal.dot, templates
indeed worked.
Thanks for the reference web page regarding specical characters. But the
page did not describe the table for numeric keyboard shortcut (Alt + O+
xxx"). Where can I find the table. Regards, James

The easiest way to find these numbers nowadays is through Character Map (a
windows applet). But you can also use Insert Symbol to find the codes. For
the ANSI codes, change the "from:" setting from "Unicode (hex)" to "ASCII
(decimal)." But you can also insert any Unicode character in Word 2002 by
typing the number and pressing Alt+X. You'll see this for the "Shortcut Key"
when you select a double-byte character (or actually any character that
can't be entered from the keyboard) in the Insert Symbol dialog.
