Down Arrow key displays character

Hi:
Kids were playing with Word 97...Now, the down arrow key displays a "down
arrow" instead of moving down.
How did they do this and how can I change it back?

Insert | Symbol. Find the character they've assigned to this shortcut (the
easiest way is to have it selected when you open the Symbol dialog), then
press Shortcut Key... and remove the assignment.
