merging with a hyperlink field

Hi Folks,
We have to send out a letter to about a thousand users, as a mail
merge. The data is in an .xls file, and includes their forename,
lastname and a hyperlink. Each person has a different hyperlink. So far
I can create a merged letter that works for the first/last name, but
the hyperlink isn't behaving. I would like both the displayed text and
the link target to change, but so far I can't get them to increment
through the list in excel - any ideas?
