Fieldnames in Word 2000 Mail merge

Hi,

I am having problem with Word 2000 mail merge. Some of the fields in my
data source (word table) has parenthesis. For ex: fieldname =
testfield(1). When I click on Edit Recipient, the parenthesis is
removed from the fieldname i.e the fieldname is displayed as
"testfield1". Same problem when I try inserting the field to the letter
template.

Also observed that the problem extends to all the special characters.
Any help regarding this is appreciated.
