I have a user who created a mail merge that consists of a
2 page letter. The first page needs to print out on
letterhead but the second page of the letter prints out on
plain regular paper. Right now the first page of the mail
merge prints out on letterhead but the first page of the
next letter does not. The margins are intact for the
letterhead but it doesn't print. Can this be done?

Thanks,
Debra

Try putting the letterhead in a header, then, in Page Setup-Layout, check
"Different first page" so the letterhead will appear only on page 1. The
data or text merged into the letter does not affect headers or footers.

Hi Debra,

Do you mean, when printing the paper is not take from the
correct tray? Or is the letterhead information in the
document itself, but is not printing?

If the former, try merging to a new document.
File/Page Setup/Paper
Select the tray(s) for the first and the other pages, and
make SURE this is being applied to "Whole Document".

Note: you need to be sure you are merging as a "LETTER" and
not as a "CATALOG".

Thanks Richard and Cindy for your suggestions.
The Letterhead is pre-printed paper that sits in a tray in
the printer. So the first page of the letter in the
mailmerge has the margins set to accomidate the pre -
printed paper. The very first page of the mail merge does
print on the Letter Head but from then on, the first page
of each letter that should print on Letterhead does not.
So you are correct Cindy, paper isn't pulling from correct
tray after the first page. How do I set this for the whole
mail merge ?

Thank you,
Debra

Cindy,
We are printing to a HP 8150DN printer using Windows 2000.
Under File/Page Setup/Paper Source, there is no longer
that option to select what tray with the printer driver.
We are using Quick Sets under our printer driver to
specify what tray contains letterhead. Any other
suggestions ?

Thanks,
Deb

Now you're out of my depth :-) I don't know much of anything
about hardware, so I have no idea what "Quick sets" is, or
how it works with Word. You might have a better chance
pursuing how to select paper trays under this configuration
in the public.word.printingfonts newsgroup.

You shouldn't (necessarily) need to confuse them by talking
about mail merge. Just make sure you have a merge result
document that you generated as a LETTER (not catalog!) type,
so that it has a section break between each record's result.

OK, so you tell them you have a long(ish) document with
multiple sections. You want to set a different tray for the
first page of each section, but PageSetup won't let you...

..and you take it from there, because that's the point where
I can't help you anymore.
