I am using Word 2003 and am running a merge using Excel as the data source.
The data is being merged into a template that contains several tables within
the document and often leaves empty rows in the tables. I wrote a macro that
removes the empty rows of the tables, saved it with the template and assigned
it to a toolbar. The idea being once the documents are merged then the user
can remove the empty rows using the macro button vice manually removing the
rows.

My problem is once the merge is complete, the toolbar disappears and the
macro is no longer available. The toolbar remains on the screen while using
the mail merge helper until I click "Edit Individual documents" and then it
is no longer available.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The toolbar will only be visible when a document based on the template is
the active document. When a merge is executed to a new document (by
selecting "Edit Individual documents", that document is not based on the
template in the save way that a document is based on a template by the use
of File>New and then selecting the template.

If you want the macro and toolbar to be available, then they need to be in a
global template (either normal.dot or a template that is saved in the Word
Startup folder).

That's great! I guess my problem is now that the merge is only done by
certain users in the company and I'd rather not have a toolbar available to
everyone if only a few need it.

As Word is a single user application, provide the global add-in template
only to the users who require it.
