Word 2004: Comments not showing for others?

Hi, I am an editor using Word for Mac, v 11.2; using comment bubbles
but not the name/date/function feature. Queries inserted as comments
are
not showing for some of my authors. I've tried getting them to View,
Comments (but often they don't have that setting); setting Prefs
(hidden text/text w/animations); no luck. This seems to happen with
both PC and Mac users.

Perhaps related: sometimes there are comments in my file but the Prev
Comment/Next Comment buttons are inactive, as if the system can't
"see"
the comments.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
