Greetings,
I am using AutoShapes and Callouts to note information on a document. They
are filled white and appear great on screen. When printing they do not print
white but print empty, as if No Fill had been selected. I am using Office
2000 and Windows 98 with an HP LaserJet 5 printer. Never had trouble with
Office 97.
I also make a newsletter with black filled boxes and White font. The Font
will not print in White.
Any ideas? Please reply via email and group if possible.
Thanks,
Andy Boatman ~:)

Hi Andy

Sounds to me like you need an updated printer driver. Have you tried
downloading the latest version from the HP web site? Also, if there are
different PCL versions (5 and 6) available, it might be worth experimenting
with all of them.

I don't understand why the introduction of W2k should have created printer
driver bugs that weren't there previously, leaving the onus on the printer
driver manufacturers to fix something that wasn't broken - but it has, (so
has Word 2002), so I imagine there must be something non-standard about the
way in which Word 2000+ creates PCL print files (interestingly, I've not
heard of any equivalent problems when using PostScript printer drivers).

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave,

FWIW, there are postscript drivers listed in this article
with printing issues from Word 2002, it even compares
to Word 2000 :)
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q298/9/53.ASP

In the past the printer makers have generally been
quicker to respond and field a driver update than
MS has been in updating an app or the OS <g>.

Hi Andrew,

As Dave mentioned, do check your printer driver
In Tools=>Options=>Compatability check the
setting for 'Don't blank area behind metafiles'
and in the printer properties see if changing
the setting for raster/vector printing helps.
Some HP drivers have had problems with White
Text on black backgrounds going back to Win 3.1.
Check to see if you've formatted the text area
to be White on black or if it's black background
and 'automatic' color selection for the white.
