Word 2000, NT 4.0, Visio 5.0. 160-page doc, many figures & tables.

I've created a picture in Visio. I'm saving it as .wmf and importing it
via Insert / Picture / From file... The picture comes in OK and in the
right place, but the box containing it adds about a 1" border on the
bottom. The crop tool has no effect on this box, and dragging the box's
resize handles shrinks the picture, rather than clipping the border.

This happens repeatedly with this picture but not others. I've seen
this problem with other pictures in the past, and was able to fix it by
Cut / Paste Special / Picture. That isn't working now. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Instead of saving the drawings as .wmf save it as a standard, Visio .vsd
file. Then in Word, select Insert/Object and scroll down to Visio 5.0
Drawing and scroll to where you saved your drawing. (I've noticed that
the Files of Type window always has .vst in it for a template, so you
need to click the dropdown button and choose Drawing .vsd).
Click on the drawing you made and it will be imported into Word. The
sizing is automatic to the edges of the drawing so there is no white
space around it.

This gave the same result as before, but the fact that it happened via
two different insert methods pointed the finger at Visio. I went back to
the drawing, dragged a selection rectangle around the empty space at the
bottom and Voila! An invisible shape! I deleted that, and we're off and
running.

Thanks, Tonya.
