how do I insert a link to an attached jpg in WORD?

I am creating a Word document that needs to include some photo's of rail
accident scenes and I don't want these pictures to display until the user
clicks on the link to the photo. I have tried to insert object but the
resulting document doesn't show easily understandable links for the less
educated users to click. Please will you advise me what I need to do to
attach these photo's to this document>

Use Insert>Object, then Create from file and check the Insert as Icon radio
button
