I am trying to remove the drawing canvas from an inserted ClipArt but am at
a loss. I am using Word 2003 and I have already switched off the option in
Tools, Options, General relating to Autoshapes but it doesn't seem to affect
ClipArt. HELP!

With Insert=>Picture=>Clipart, (or Insert=>Picture from file and choosing an EMF or WMF graphic) Word's Edit Picture feature
disassembles the individual clip art pieces into its parts.
It surrounds the pieces with a drawing canvas to 'hold together' all of the bits and pieces that make up a WMF or EMF drawing. In
this way if you save a document or an HTML version from Word can still save a single object rather than dozens or hundreds of
individual bits.
There are a couple of ways to overcome the result. If, for example, after editing, you select the edge (lined border)of the
canvas, cut the drawing then use Edit=>Paste Special and select either Windows Metafile or Enhanced Metafile and paste the graphic
it should be a single group again without the drawing canvas.

Sorry ... you're right, I missed out a step. The drawing canvas appears after I right click on the clipart and choose Edit Picture.
It then becomes an AutoShape. I'm doing this as a way to remove certain colours. Can you help? >>
