Position pictures in Word - layout tab - advanced grayed out

seems I need to change the "author" to enable the advanced features - how is
this done?

Sorry but I don't understand at all. Author has nothing to do with
formatting of pictures. Can you explain in more detail what you're having
difficulty with; which step of the linked instructions doesn't work for you?

I'm trying to insert a picture into a word doc. and then change the format
size. I can do that but the picture goes off center - going to "layout" the
advanced tab is greyed out - how do I get the advanced tab active?

I have a vague memory of having seen it greyed out on the odd occasion but
can't recall the details (at the time it wasn't relevant and I could be
mistaken). I can't reproduce the problem now on Word 2003 so will have to
defer to someone older and wiser. Sorry.

It would be grayed out, I think, if the wrapping were set to In Line With
Text.

That was my first thought but I couldn't get it to grey out no matter what I
tried.
