Quick way to insert scanned signature into a word doc?

I have to insert a scanned signature into a word document before faxing it.

The way I do it now, using word 2007:

insert picture, navigate to the signature.png file (with transparent
background) using the file open dialog
change position->more layout option->in front of text
rescale and position the picture on the signature line in the document

Is there a way to make this quicker (fewer steps/clicks), I have to do this
many times each day. There ought to be a way to insert picture in front of
text as default, instead of inserting picture as inline text.

Perhaps it is possible to write a macro that searches for the signature
line, then insert the signature. I haven't used VBA for a long time, could
someone list the functions I would need to use so I don't have to start from
scratch?
E.g. function to search a string, function to insert a picture and put it in
front of text, function to re-position and rescale a picture, etc. If there
is a sample macro to do something similar, please let me know!

How about what was called AutoText, now in 2007 AutoCorrect, see For more on
AutoText, see http://word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/AutoText.htm and
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/AutoCorrect.htm.
Basically insert a signature as you want, do the save to AutoCorrect, then
from then on you only have to enter the key-word and - bob's-your-uncle - the
image appears.

To clarify, AutoCorrect exists in previous versions and is unchanged in Word
2007. AutoText from previous versions is still available in Word 2007 but is
part of the overall feature called Building Blocks. You can still create an
AutoText entry the same way, by inserting the desired content, selecting,
pressing Alt+F3, selecting AutoText as the desired gallery, typing a name
for the entry, and saving.

Thanks. Autotext works, but this feature is so hidden, I doubt anyone would
be able to find it on their own.

Unfortunately, AutoComplete no longer works in Word 2007, but once you've
created the AutoText entry, you can type the first few letters of the entry
name and press F3 to insert it. Or, if you don't remember the name of the
entry, you can use Insert | Text | QuickParts.
