inserted pictures won't print in color

I scanned some photos into an Adobe Photoshop
(4.0) file, saved them as full-color pict files, and
inserted them into a Word 2001 document (Insert --
Picture -- from file). In Page Preview and Print Preview
they look perfect, but when I print them they come out
grainy and black-and-white. What am I doing wrong?
