I am endeavouring to draw up a chart that shows various segments along a
depreciation curve. I have drawn the curve and lines from this curve back to the
axes (line drawing object) and would like to shade the space bound by the lines,
axes and curve as this is an important part of the chart.

I would appreciate any help I can get.

Hi Notrevol,

What version of Word are you working in and what tools/steps
are you using to create the chart?

I would thing you will need closed objects in the shapes you want to be able to
add fills. Just drawing lines doesn't define an area. And if you want multiple
areas, you would need multiple objects. You could make an image with the
shading and set it behind your chart. Excel area charts make editable objects
once they are extracted from a chart. I usually use a drawing application that
I can point and click to define an area fill that eventually is seen as an
object, and therefore editable. I also make bitmap images, use a mask function,
copy the masked area to a new file and use a trace application to create an
object. I do additional editing in Power Point, and present my charts from
there. Rich

1. Word 97
2. I'm using the lines (curved line / straight line etc) in the drawing objects
tool bar. I simply drew the two lines for the axis, a curve for my capacity
rate, and a few dotted lines to show key segments along the y axis.

Sorry for my tardy reply

Tnx

Hi Notrevol

I would use a proper drawing package for this and then paste the result into
Word.

Regards

Dave

Hi Notrevol,

In this regard, things in Word 97 through Word 2002 are pretty much the
same as far as shading/3d fills, etc..
http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/2002/articles/wdMoreDimensionsToYourGraphics.aspx

Could you zip and email me the document you're working on? You can add a shadow or
3-D to each of the drawn objects (Working in either an inserted Word Picture object or
Insert=>Picture Draw 98 (you can download it from
if you don't have it installed in Word 97) can make working with the objects on a single
canvas easier) but I'm not sure that I'm picturing the 'space bounded' by when you talk
about shading. You can apply a color or shadow to a background or a shape used to
surround and sit behind other objects.

Not all of us have budgets to have other graphics packages and even when that is the
case there can be management direction to make sure everything in the document can
be editable by other users :)
