Hi,

I'm linking external graphics to both word and PowerPoint. I get a link
object

{ LINK Visio.Drawing.6 C:\\MatejK\\Docs\\Image.vsd \a \p }

I tried to change it to

{ LINK Visio.Drawing.6 .\\Image.vsd \a \p }

so that the link would be relative, but words changes it back.

How can I make Word/PowerPoint/... to use relative pathnames in LINK.

TIA,

Matej

hi matej

I once did this, and it worked... I think I didn't use any single dot
for the current directory, so leaving ".\\" out of ur link should do the
trick, I hope.

good luck

Hi Bob

I can't get it to work for Link fields. IncludePicture and IncludeText
fields both allow you to use relative paths provided that the linked file is
in the same direectory as the Word document, or a subdirectory of it. But I
can't see any way, with the Link field, to avoid using the full path.

Matej:

The only sure way to do this is to place all the image files in the same
folder as the document.

You can then search/replace the path out of the link completely, leaving
only the file name.

If you do that, Word will find the pictures, and it won't put the path back.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Thank you all for your help, but none of the solutions does not work. As
soon as Word or PowerPoint re-evaluates the link, it puts full pathname
back.

Does this smell like a bug?

Hi Matej

AFAIK, you can do what you want with Include fields but NOTb with LINK
fields.

Worth emailing msw...@microsoft.com about, IMO.
