Does anyone know how to add an overline to selected text?

For this you need an EQ field with the \x (box) switch. To construct the
field, surround the text you want overlined with parenthese, then type EQ \x
\to in front of it. For example, given the text "text," you would end up
with:

EQ \x \to (text)

Select this entire expression and press Ctrl+F9, then F9.

If this does not give the effect you want, you can experiment with using the
EQ \o (overstrike field, overstriking your text with the Ż (overbar)
character (Alt+0175).

This is exactly what i was looking for. Thank you for that solution. But one question remains: Can I add a button in my developers tab to "one-click generate" the overline feature?

You can save the EQ field as a Building Block; then it can be easily reused.

Which version of Word? Only Word 2010 offers built-in ribbon customization, and
you can't add a command to directly insert a particular Building Block; instead,
you'd have to create a macro to insert it first, and add the macro command to
the ribbon...
