How to I set a Hyperlink to open in a new window (Word 2002)

I have a Word doc that is available to our staff via our Intranet. So when
they open it the doc is opening via Explorer. When we click on the
hyperlinks in the doc they don't open a new browser window even though I have
set the Target Frame for each hyperlink to 'new window'. I want them to open
a new window - what am I doing wrong?

If I open the doc via Word (only I can do this) and not via the Intranet and
click on a hyperlink a new window opens. I'm guessing it has something to do
with the fact that my staff are only able to access the doc via the Intranet
and not directly through Word. Is there anything I can do?

Generally speaking, if you add the \n switch to the hyperlink field, it will
open in a new window.

Press the F1 key.

Press Alt+F9 to view the HYPERLINK field code. Add \n to the end of the
field, then Alt+F9 to toggle back and F9 to update. Or, as garfield-n-odie
suggests, see the "Field codes: Hyperlink field" Help topic.

You are correct, now that I know what to type in to find that topic. But for
an average user I typed in Hyperlink and searched the topics for something
that resembles what I was looking for. It wasn't obvious to me...........
but I'm learning.

In Word 2007, why can't I make a hyperlink (to a location in my document)
appear in a new 'popup' window by either appending \n to the hyperlink or, in
the Edit Hyperlink dialog, by clicking Set Target Frame and specifying 'new
window'?

Purpose: be able to 'pop up' helpful tips, boilerplate text, etc. stored at
the end of a document, as a user edits the front part of the document.

I think that Word doesn't support creating a new window for hyperlinks
targets within the current document. Or are you saying that this has worked
in older versions?

Nope, not saying that...just want to be able to create, somehow, popup
windows within a Word doc to display help, boilerplate, etc. Thought this
might be a hidden function that could work for me. Screentips are cool but
have too short a text limit. What I really want is the ability to set
hyperlinks that pop up help windows like we used to be able to do in Windows
Help 3.x. This could be so helpful to everyone, but instead we get new
features like 'create a blog'.
