We are trying to unprotect forms that have been password protected. The
person that built the forms is no longer with the company and we have to make
changes to the existing form. Is there a way around this?

Open a new blank document and use the Insert > File command to bring in the
form document. That simple expedient removes the password. This works only
for forms protection (and, I think, for "comments only" protection), not for
documents that require a password to open/modify.
