Could I solve this problem by uninstalling word completely and reinstalling
it from the distribution disks (Office XP (professional) Version 2002? I read
the FAQ page, but nothing seemed real relevant.
This is driving me crazy. I have Medium security set. Low isn't
recommended, but seems the only way to get around some of the problems.
I really appreciate your help (even if you don't want to pursue this).
Thanks.
I've been struggling with evolving technology from my niche in the
humanities since the early 80's w/ my compupro s-100 bus system. I loved cmp
and Wordstar! I hate having to waste time using a mouse. So these error
messages really get to me. Another defect: I can't let go of a problem til
it's solved. But I just can't stay abreast. Thanks again.
The DLL files you listed are the code files for Microsoft's "Smart
Tags". The expanded path to the folder that contains them is
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Smart Tag
Smart Tags really shouldn't be causing any security messages, but I
suppose anything is possible. In Word or any other Office program, try
selecting Help > Detect and Repair to see if that gets rid of the
messages.
You can also try removing Smart Tags (and if you have any use for
them, then reinstall them) as follows:
- In the Windows Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click Microsoft Office and then click the Change button that appears
on the right side.
- Leave Add or Remove Features selected and click Next.
- Check the box for "Choose advanced customization of applications"
and then click Next.
- Click the + sign next to Office Tools to expand it.
- Click the icon for Smart Tag Plug-ins.
- Click "Not available" in the popup menu. A red X appears on the
icon.
- Click the Update button. Wait for the message that the update was
successful.
If you want to reinstall Smart Tags, repeat the same steps but choose
"Run from my computer" instead of "Not available".

Caere manufactures scanning and OCR software, and probably they have a
word add-in.
