Template Filename not updated when new doc is saved

I've, read other questions conserning this matter, but cannot find out what
to do.

I've created a new template and added a footer autotext: Filename \p.
When I open a new doc based on this template it has 'document1' 2,3... in
the footer. Then I save the document with a new name, but the next time I
open the document it still has 'document1' in the footer.

Why doesn't it have the documents name in the footer.
