I have a situation -- here are the facts:

(1) I can currently print all previously setup mailmerge documents fine
(2) I can not create any more new ones -- receive the following error:
(MailMergeHelper/GetData/OpenDatasource) "Word unable to open
datasource" (3) datasource is a CSV (Comma Separated Values) text file
w/ header (4) can open said CSV file in Word and Excel (5) file is not
locked, no other user is using it, I can open it in
notepad,wordpad,word,excel directly

The strange thing is that I set these up a few weeks ago but cannot set
any new ones up because of the error I receive (#2 above). What is even
stranger is if I open a mailmerge document that I created, then initiatie
the MailMerge Helper and select Get Data (the data has already been
"gotten" at this point), and select "open datasource", then select the
exact same datasource that this mailmerge document is pointing at, I
receive said error message. I need to get this stuff out into production
asap and this has got me stumped. I've checked the data file (well I
have eight previously created/fully functional documents with separate
datasources) and everything seems fine. All of my prevously created
mailmerge docs will merge just -- I've even edited some of the data in
the datasource and remerged and the data came in modified. It's as
though the merge process is working but the datasource setup portion of
the MailMerge helper is now broken. These docs will merge but I'm now
unable to update the document/datasources to add new fields. HELP!!!!!

It also appears that the item that is causing my grief is a '.' in one of
the field values. Of course, per Murphy's programmer's law, it does not
happen with a decimal in just any field....maybe it is the format of the
cell that is causing the problem. I'm still debugging this bad boy so
any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like a corrupted .dll file. Try a re-install of Word.
