How to Create a Division Mark

I mean the mathematical symbol for "divided by."
I've tried the character map and searching Help. It's probably right in
front of me but I can't see it.
I'd appreciate some help.

The division symbol can be found in Symbol or any of the basic fonts e.g.
Arial in the character map. usually in the middle on the 6th or 7th line

The difficulty of finding this symbol is probably that you are looking for
it in the Mathematical Operators subset in Insert | Symbol. But it's part of
the basic Latin-1 character set: 00F7 or 0247. In Word 2002 or 2003, it is
the seventh character in the twelfth row of the Symbol dialog.

You can insert it using Alt+0247 (on the numeric keypad) as others have
suggested. In Word 2002/2003, you can also insert it using 00F7, Alt+X. If
you use it frequently, you might prefer to assign an easier keyboard
shortcut.

Many thanks to all respondents. I find that the Alt+246 and Alt+0247 work
fine. I also found the item in the Insert Symbols list.
I cannot make sense of the 00F7, Alt+X formula, however. How does that work?

You type 00F7, then press Alt+X. For fun, select any character in a document
and press Alt+X; Word will substitute the Unicode number. (Alt+X again or
Undo to get your character back.)
