How can I set two languages at once? I am used to US English, but presently
teaching in a country that's using UK English. I want to keep US Eng. but at
the same time I do not want Word to capture my students' UK spellings as
"errors". Better yet, it will be great if this can be done for the entire
office suite.

You'll need to set one flavor of English as your default (see
http://homepage.swissonline.ch/cindymeister/LangFmt.htm), but you can create
styles or even whole templates that use the other. Your students' work will
probably have UK English applied already, but if not you can select all the
text in the document (Ctrl+A) and apply UK English (Tools | Language | Set
Language). I *don't* advise you to allow Word to detect the language
automatically.

Hi Suzanne,
I have attempted to allow automatic language detection but it does not seem
to work for me. I set up French and English but when one language is the
default it will not automatically detect the other. I have almost given up
on this feature but is there something other than changing Tools, Language,
Set Language and click Detect language automatically that I am supposed to
do. Also, why would you recommend not using the dual option?
Thanks for your help.

My recommendation was based on the experience of other users who report that
Word doesn't detect the language reliably enough for auto detection to be
worthwhile.

Suzanne - thanks - I had posted a problem I was haveing - both French and
English were showing up as my default languages - and my spell checker seemed
to alternate between the two when checking. Had tried everything to reset
the languages, this worked. Billy
