I do not know what a "scrap" file is, or how to open this sort of file. Can
anyone help me? Thank you, Kathy

It's basically an OLE object or link saved as a file in the file system
- e.g. if you drag some text from a Word document to a folder in Windows
Explorer, Windows creates a scrap file. You can drag it back into
another Word document, for example.

ISTR a blog saying how it had been determined that scrap files were
little used and were ditched in Vista, but the facility is available in
Win XP. There's some info. at

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb776904(VS.85).aspx#scrap

but there may well be better sources.

Here's another link worth reading. It's 10 years old, but still valid as far as
I can tell.
