It's rare that I read something online that makes me literally LOL. This is
one of those rare occasions.

That's quite a resume you got there Herb. But can you answer my question or
just tell me all the ways you COULD help if I paid your consulting fee?

You, garfield-n-odie, and Charles Kenyon are very educated, self-righteous,
smug and useless to folks who need a simple direct answer.

Thanks for nothing and congratulations on your MVP status. I really enjoyed
reading yours and Charles Kenyon's several pages of drivel about YOU and your
wonderful accomplishments.

You've posed a very difficult solution for what is a problem that _you_
have. It is probably the wrong solution because you don't understand
Word. You insult the volunteers who would willingly help you keep your job
and expect help? Nobody here gets paid for helping you.

You asked a specific question. Can this be done. I gave you an answer to
your question. I do not know how to do what you are asking to do; I doubt I
would ever do what you are asking to do; but I know it can be done.
Inserting pictures in a Word document is seldom a solution. It can swell the
size of the document exponentially.

You need to learn vba or at least learn to ask in a vba newsgroup when you
are asking about a programming solution. When you ask about command buttons
that do things, that is what you are asking about.

When you ask your question (I would advise asking politely) in a vba
newsgroup, start by explaining the version of Word you are using, and what
it is you want to accomplish, rather than assuming a method. I would also
advise putting something specific about your problem (rather than a general
question) in the subject line of your post. See
http://www.mvps.org/word/FindHelp/Posting.htm.

You may also want to look into what Word calls an online form. The fields in
these forms can have custom help files and this does not require programming
(but it won't call up pictures for you). For more on online forms, check
help and the links at
http://www.addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles.

Good luck.

Note that you never asked HOW. You merely asked IF. And the answer was
stated that yes, it can be done. Note also that many of us answer thousands
of questions here in the newsgroups -- for free.

Some questions, however, like yours, could take hours/days/weeks to address.
You didn't give nearly enough detail to allow us to even attempt a useful
answer. I, for one, am not even sure what questions to ask.

So, let's start:

<<I am try to create an Change Request form and want to create a button in a
form, and when the user clicks on it, a picture (.jpg), will open to show an
example of the change. There may be a need for several pictures...is all of
this possible in Word? >>

[Note: "I am try to create an Change...". I'm not sure why you expect us to
exert more effort in answering your question than you put forth in asking
it.]

First, I don't know what a "change request form" is. There is no context.
There's nothing in Word called "change request form," so I'm left to guess
what you're talking about. Or, is this relevant to your question?

Second, you said "form". Do you mean a Word form, as in "protected for
forms" or are you using form in a generic sense? The answer to this makes a
great deal of difference in how the question should be answered and the
approach to suggest. Some things don't work in Word forms, or don't work
easily.

The "jpg will show an example of the change". I don't know exactly what that
means. My first guess is that the content of the jpg is relevant to the
question. So, are you saying that when the user clicks a button, Word will
then generate a jpg to show the effect of a given change? Or will there be
an existing library of jpg files that will be called upon depending on
exactly what type of change you're talking about?

If it's the latter, how would the underlying VBA be able to tell which jpg
to display? Or you going to have change-type checkboxes that make this
determination?

The questions just go on and on before one could begin to suggest an
approach.

That's why the first responder said "Yes" to "Can this be done?"

Yes, it can be done... I think. But, not easily. It sounds like it will take
a lot of work. I don't mean a 15 minute answer. I mean days, and possibly
weeks, depending on how involved it is.

While many of us answer a lot of questions for free -- some of them rather
involved -- there are some questions that seem to go well beyond the kind of
help one can reasonably expect in a peer-help forum. It's rather like going
onto a Health forum and asking one of the doctors for precise step-by-step
instructions on how to perform open heart surgery.

I'm sorry if we came off as rude or abrupt. But, to some of us, the question
really came off like one of those "Can somebody do my job for me?"
questions, and I don't believe that the unpaid volunteers here (some MVPs
and some not) are willing to go quite that far. On the other hand, most of
us are willing to meet you at least halfway. If you can articulate your
question in a way that tells us exactly what you're doing, I'm sure that
someone here will try to pitch in and help.

MStim --

I agree with Herb in the degree to which you under-specified your
problem. However, I'm going to take a flying guess that you're
creating a protected form and that the jpg files exist somewhere
outside the Word document. If that's correct, then go to
http://jay-freedman.info and download the form_picture.zip file. Unzip
the template it contains into your User Templates folder and use File
> New to base a new document on it. It's a tutorial on creating the
macros needed to insert a picture into a designated space in a
protected form. If you need help adapting it to your project, please
post here or in the microsoft.public.word.vba.beginners group; don't
send private e-mail, thank you.
