Is there a way to have a transparent background in a text box so that
underlying text, etc., is visible?

I use the word DRAFT in large word art letters diagonally across the body of
a page (using View > Header and Footer) for all draft documents. However,
every text box blocks parts of the word DRAFT. Can DRAFT be made visible
"through" the text box text?

You can set a text-box as No fill in the fill color. You might also like to
explore the Format | Background | Printed Watermark and the text option as an
alternative to using Wordart. Hope this helps.

Rae -- Yes, I have used the WaterMark options. In truth, the DRAFT may be a
watermark. I set this up a long time ago and don't recall how it was done.

Thanks for the help. I had assumed that the "out of the box default" for new
text boxes was "no-fill" (since there is no visible color), but now I see
that what's REALLY there is a WHITE FILL.... Changing it to "no fill" really
does make the overlying box transparent. Happy day! I have lots of documents
that will be improved by getting rid of the "white fill".
