I'm wondering if there's a way to create labels that would auto number in the
following format using Word 2003:

Exhibit A
Page # of 20

Exhibit A
Page # of 20

Where the # symbol represents an autonumber.

Do you mean labels as in mailing labels, or more something like captions in
a document?

For the former, you could use mail merge with an Excel spreadsheet
containing a column of numbers as the data source

for the latter, you could use a SEQ field

Exhibit A
Page { SEQ ExhA } of 20

Use Ctrl+F9 to insert the field delimiters and Alt+F9 to toggle off their
display.

You can copy that and paste it to where ever you want the caption to appear,
Select and use F9 to update the fields or using Print Preview will do the
same thing.

See also http://www.gmayor.com/Numbered_labels.htm where you will find an
add-in for numbering labels.
