In Word-2003, in the lower-left of the Word window, the cursor (not mouse)
position was shown. I could toggle between inches and picas. I need this
when composing a book so facing pages have an identical look.

Right click the status bar and tick Vertical Page Position.

I sort of remember that there was a horizontal position display-option also
in Word 2003. Is there one for 2007?

But note that the Column display is just which character you're at--it won't
tell you the horizontal measurement. Neither did Word 2003, for that
matter--just the column.

Thanks, guys. I'll pick up a copy of the bible. Watch for my book,
