I want to create several word documents that link to one another and I
want to be able to zip up all of these documents up and send them to
someone else and have the links actually work.

Problem: Word won't allow this to work because it insists on absolute
paths for hyperlinks. When the other person gets the document, the link
still reference absolute paths on _my_ machine.

Tried the File..Properties..Hyperlink Base property, but that doesn't work.

I can't believe Microsoft would ship Word with such an obvious
shortcoming (I know..silly me)

Is there any workaround to link documents relatively.

Thanks,
Wayne Abbott

G'day Wayne Abbott <newe...@heyabbott.net>,

Can't you edit the hyperlinks down to a relative path? Alt+F9 and Find
/ Replace should do it fast for you.

Word insists no butchering them when you reopen the doc, though.

If I pull my hair out in frustration my wife will kill me (Hell, I do
anything wrong my wife will kill me!) so I'll just say "Err, some
nasty autopen macros that will cause error messges and grief ..."

<Sighs>

I knew I was avoiding 2003 for some good reasons. I hope that
something can be done about this supposed hyperlink problem. If only i
had the time.

FWIW, Word 2002 has the same problem. The advice I got was to disable
"Update automatic links at Open" and "Update links on save." Now it turns
out that enabling them would solve the problem. I don't know because I gave
up in disgust and moved my Web pages to FrontPage.

G'day "Suzanne S. Barnhill" <sbar...@mvps.org>,

Can I be cheeky and suggest that this is then an excellent argument
for using Master Documents in XP+ to achieve this effect :-)
