Go to: tools/options

Under the View tab, uncheck the boxes by spaces and paragraph marks.

(You don't really have to turn those off, as they only show up on the
screen. When you print the document, those marks won't show whether or not
you uncheck the boxes.)

Why do people dislike that feature? I think it's terrific but the only other
person I know who uses it is my husband.

I love it, and use it, because I like to be able to see what I'm doing.
However, it could have been my own daughter who asked the question, because
I'm always turning it on! (It wasn't her--she would have just asked me.)

I like it because it often explains why things look the way they do and why
the moment you make one little change, everything else goes all
catty-whompus!

My husband *doesn't* use it (except selectively), and I feel uncomfortable
whenever I try to help him with something. But then as soon as I turn it on
on his computer, I immediately turn it back off so I won't throw up seeing
the formatting of the stuff he's trying to edit (Enter, Enter, Tab, Tab,
Tab, Tab, space, space). I hasten to point out that *he* knows better, but
he gets stuff from other people that he has to edit and send in for a
section of a professional newsletter.

I'm bad. I tend to turn it on when using someone else's computer - and then
forget to turn it off.
