why is Word "not responding" whenever I try to print?

I have Windows 7, and a new HP Windows 7 compatible printer that was working
fine for about a month. Now it will print pages off the internet, and will
copy, but will not print when I open a word document saved on my computer -
it says it cannot find the printer and then freezes up.
