Hi.

I have a document with multiple styles that I have
created. In many instances, I have Heading 1 followed by
Body Text. Both of these styles have 6 pt set for Before
and After for the paragraph spacing. (I want a total of 12
pt between Heading 1 and Body Text.) The problem is that
Word isn't picking up both instances of the 6 pt spacing.
(Instead of 12 pt between the paragraphs, it's only
allowing 6.) I noticed when I select Auto instead of
putting in 6, it seems to adjust it, but I've never used
Auto and am not sure if that's the correct solution.

Any ideas? Please email me if you have a suggestion.

Thanks in advance!

Hilary

Word's interparagraph spacing is the greater of the respective After and Before
values, not the sum of them. There's no ideal solution, but I've found it easier
to automate the formatting by using only the Above value -- set the minimum
space you need ABOVE paragraphs of a give style, and let the space after be
determined entirely by what follows.

On the Compatibility tab of Tools | Options, check the box for "Don't use
HTML paragraph auto spacing."
