I have Ms Office 2003 installed. I use Excel and word daily. I used to have
office 2000 installed and since 1 year have updated. To my surprise I cannot
import Ms.Excel files into Word using office 2003. This was not a problem
with office 2000. I have a full installation including proofing tools. What
is wrong. I've tried it on several computers carying Office 2003. Does not
work.
Why and what must I do or download?

Why can't you? Please explain what doesn't happen as you expect. It's not
available? It's grayed out? How are you attempting to do it? Have you copied
from Excel, and tried Edit-->Paste special options?

Hi Vlaun,

If you're referring to the Excel import filter that
let you use File=>Open within Word on Excel files you
are correct, it is not available in Office 2003.

You can still use the clipboard to paste sections of Excel
files into Word or, an 'as is' basis add the
Excel32.cnv file to your
<drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv
folder and turn on Confirm Conversions on Open in
Tools=>Options=>General in Word.

I try to insert an excel file as I dis with Excel 2000 or XP, but it opens
this "Fikle Conversion" window From where I should select the encoding that
makes my document readable. I can choose from Windows, MS-Dos or other
encoding. But I got the answer from both Bob Buckland and Graham Mayor. I
uninstalled and removed everything connected with office 2003 in the registry
and anywhere else. I reinstalled and when I tried to inmport the excel file,
I got the message, "Cannot open excel32.cnv" I believe this is the old
conversion file missing in Excel 2003. I downloaded it from Mr. mayor's
websight. There are more flaws in MsOffice 2003, but slowly but surely they
are been resolved. Someday Microsoft and other softwware providers will have
a perfect product. Thanks for the help.

Thank you for the answer, but I did that after having the problem. I now now
what the problem was. The converter for excel is not available in word 2003.
I downloaded it and will install it as soon as I get the chance. Thank you
for your interest.

Thank you Mr. Mayor for having that file available. After I uninstalled and
realy got rid of everythhing concerning MSoffice 2003 in the registry and
anywher, and reinstalled MSOffice 2003, I noticed when I tried to insert the
excel file, I got the message that it could not open excel32.cnv. I looked
for it on the internet or better yet on MSoffice 2003 websights, but could
not find anything posted by Ms itself.
Thank you very much.
