Word Document Backgrounds

Does any one know where I can get Free backgrounds for word. I want something
like champane glasses, bottles etc that can be used for a menu for New Years
eve.

You can always go into the header/footer of your document, draw a large text
box (covering the page) and insert graphics from the clip art
included...that's what I do. Once you close out the header, your graphic
will be behind your document text. If you want it like a watermark, then
grayscale and lighten your object...

There's no need to use a text box to put a graphic in the header. Merely
insert the graphic, set it behind text and drag it to the size required.
There should be something suitable in clip art or if not there are tons of
art available on the internet.

correct, no need, but text box allows for exact placement of graphic...if
that's a goal

If the graphic is set behind text you can drag it wherever you want. The
text box is still unneccesary for this.

And you can use the Picture Properties to set the position exactly (Layout:
Advanced).

I am trying to make the background image so that it is the normal color and
not a lighter shade ... does anyone know how to adjust this setting?

Click on it to display the Picture toolbar and use the Color button to
change the color from Washout or Watermark to Automatic.

I have already tried that ... it doesn't work ... every time that I close the
header/footer it still shows up as lighter than it was. I realize that it
will print correctly ... however the colors in my logo and the background
beach scene look way too light and gives the impression that I don't know
anything about colors and Iam an interior decorator so the impression they
will get from my documents is a big deal. Somewhere there needs to be a
setting that will make the Header/Footer information normal ... not
watermarked.

Comming late to the thread, but: there is no such setting!

You could (in theory :-)) try to darken your colors appropriately so
that they will look better on screen (in PrintLayout view) -- but they
will then look too dark in both PrintPreview and on paper.

But if you don't need your customers to actually write something into
these files, then distributing them in *.doc format might not be the
best option, anyway. PDF?

That's a different issue entirely. The header and footer are always dimmed
when the focus is in the document body and vice versa. This is by design. If
you are sending documents to clients electronically, you will need to
convert them to PDF (or at least recommend viewing in Print Preview) if you
want the clients to get the desired impression.
