I found the following in the Publisher section of the discussion groups and
it solved the problem and saved the day. Thank you Mary very much.

From Office Newsgroup
a. Close Publisher and any other open applications.
b. Click on Start | Run | Open: regedit .
c. If the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\Proofing Tools\1.0\Override" exists, delete it.
d. Exit regedit.
e. Restart your computer.

You are a lifesaver! I have been going crazy for three days trying to figure
out what was wrong in my new Office 2007 Profesional Plus. This worked like a
charm.

THANK YOU!

I am having this same problem with word 2007, It just does not recognize any
spelling errors. Can I use the same fix?

I have the same problem, HOWEVER, the reg key ..."override" is not there.
What now?
