attaching documents to word documents as an attachment?

How do you insert a word doc. as an attachment to a word doc. and if this is
possible can changes be made and saved to the attachment?

Use Insert > Object (pre-2007) or Insert > Object > Object (2007) and choose the
Create from File tab of the dialog. Browse to the document to attach. Check the
box for "Display as icon". (You could leave that unchecked, but the inserted
document would display only its first page.) If you're going to send the whole
thing to someone else, don't check the "Link to file" box; that really only
works on your own computer.

To edit the "attachment", just double-click it.
