Can someone help me to format a bar graph in Word? I simply can't figure
out how to get rid of the three-variable format that seems to be the default
when I select object>Microsoft bar chart. All I want is a simple
two-variable chart with an x-axis and y-axis but no legend to specify the
third variable. In other words, there should be a single horizontal bar
(not three) for each categorical point along the y-axis, with the x-axis
serving as the continuous measure (e.g., 0%-100%, 1-100,000, etc.).

Thanks,
s.

Not certain without a visual, but check these two points in the MS Graph
object:

1- Data Menu - correct choice for Data in Columns v. Rows, and
2- Rt-Click the Legend, select Clear.

If this isn't helpful, please give a more literal description of the type of
data as well as how you have it entered in the Data Sheet.

I can clear the legend with no problem, but that does not change the fact
that there are three variables in the default chart: the sample variables
are direction (North, East, etc.), Quarter (1st, 2nd, etc.) and a measure
(0 - 100). Therefore, for the 1st quarter we see results for North, East,
etc., for the 2nd quarter the same, and so forth.

What I want is a simple 0 - 100 along one axis, and category labels for the
other axis. Example, which country has the highest gross national product?
Comparing USA, Venezuela, and China. That is the type of simple graph I
wish to create.

In the datasheet, delete all but the first row of data. Label the columns
USA, Venezuela, China, etc. Delete the label "East." You will be left with
what you want, I believe. If you want to change the bars from vertical to
horizontal, use Chart | Chart Type to change the chart from Column to Bar.

Thanks...it's almost there. I still have to iron out a few things. Thanks
for your help.
