Hi,

If this is not the correct discussion group for my
problem, please let me know which one is.

I am trying to delete a text box from my word document
(Word 2000). The box is empty. This is how I do it. I
select the text box and then I click cut from the pull-
down edit menu. Every time, a window pops up and then
Word closes.

"WINWORD.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created."

What can I do to remove this box without causing the crash?
Where is the error log stored?

(I am at my wits end and think that if I can't remove this
box from my document, then I will make it invisible!!)

Thanks,

Rochelle

Do you get the same results if you use Delete instead of Cut?

Hi,

I just tried it and Word crashed.

I highlighted the text box and then I pressed the "Delete"
key on my keyboard. Is there some other deletion method
that you are referring to or just the "Delete" key? If
so, please be specific.

Thanks,

Rochelle

No, the Delete key on the keyboard is the same thing as Edit | Clear |
Contents.

This usually means that your document is corrupt. Depending on how much time
you have invested in it, you could try --

1. Instead of deleting the textbox directly, try deleting the paragraph it's
anchored to. (If you're not sure which paragraph, Tools > Options > View:
Check the Object Anchors checkbox. You'll see a little ship's anchor in the
margin next to the paragraph.)

2. Use SaveAs to save the document to a new name.

3. Use SaveAs to save the document to a different format (like RTF or
WordPerfect) and then try reading it back.

4. Create a new document and copy the content of the old document, excluding
the textbox.
