Freezing every 30 seconds

Word XP. It's just started doing this -- it freezes briefly every 30 seconds. During that time, I see the wait/working
cursor appear 3-4 times; I see the left scroll-bar area flash 3-4 times, and I hear the thunking noise that happens whenever
I hook up or unhook USB devices.

What could be causing this?

I'm also getting the exact same problem on my new DELL Vostro 200 machine
here at work. I've confirmed this problem with one other user on my network
who we also just upgraded to a DELL Vostro 200 (we both have the same specs).
Here are our specs:

- Intel Core2Duo E4600
- 3GB DDR2 RAM
- 320GB HD
- Integrated graphics
- WinXP Pro w/SP3 installed
- Office XP installed
- Adobe CS2 installed
- Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 7.0 installed

I'm very interested to know how to fix this problem. Doing a brief google
search on the web yielded very little to no help at all.
