As a relative newcomer to the art of transfering e-mail file
attachements, I would apprecieiate any comment on the following
statement which was made by a member of our staff.

*As is widely known, WordPerfect files sent through the Internet and
retrieved and opened with Microsoft Works/Word are liable to have their
formatting corrupted*

If this is so is there any way of overcoming this?

Hi Alistair,

Its not the transmission through email which does the damage. (If it does
damage, it will render the document completely unreadable, & not just
corrupt some formatting).

The problem is that different word-processing packages have different
feature sets, and sometimes *very* different underlying ways of
implementing similar features. This means that it is darned near impossible
to take a file from one application (e.g. WordPerfect) & import it without
any flaws into another such as Word. All file conversion utilities are
therefore imperfect, almost by definition.

That's not to say that many of them couldn't be improved though!
