If you use Word Art, it can be rotated.

Jose,

you can also place text into an Autoshape box and rotate both the box and
text (independently if wanted!).

In Word 97 (you don't mention your version) you can rotate text 90 degrees
in either text boxes or tables. In previous versions of Word, or if you need
some rotation angle other than 90 degrees, you would be better off using
WordArt.

I want to thank everybody who responded to my post. I was able to figure
out how to rotate text by 270. What I would now actually like to do is
to place this rotated text on the right most margin of a document that I
already have (v7.0, '95). There is enough text to cover the entire
document. What I am really trying is an equivalent of placing a footer
at the very bottom of a page, but in this case rotated and to the right
of a page.

I tried different tricks, like 2-column document and others but nothing
woiuld do what I want to do. Any sugeestions or ideas?

Jose,

send an email to msh...@microsoft.com with Q162235 as the subject. The
autobot will send you the MS Knowledge Base article that describes methods
of placing H&Fs in Landscape.

You can use the free rotation tool in powerpoint to create and then import
the object into word.

Type the text in a text box and then and then go into Format and then
text direction , depending ont which way way the paper is laid out
being Portrait or landscape, you can rotate the text the way you like,
it is tricky but just have time and patience, word art is too much of
a hassle removing shadows and other itmes.
