working without a work file

Running Office 2000 - Windows 2000 Professional

A user of mine keeps getting an error message which states that she is
working wiihtout a work file. We have rebooted the machine and the problem
still persists.

I have been unable to find useful information for solving this problem in MS
Knowledgebase. They do make reference to this "work file" thing happening,
but only when trying to create or open a file. My user experiences this
while working on a file. It doesn't happen on every file and near as I can
tell there is no similarity to that files that it does happen with.

Any help would be appreciated.
