Envelope Print Option Greyed out in Word

We have noticed in the last week or so that a lot of users aren't able to
select Envelope option to print to - it's greyed out. It's not user or
printer specific because a number of users are experiencing the problem with
a number of printers.

If only users on your network are having this problems and the remainder of
the World isn't, then it hints that it is a problems with your network.
Pound to a pinch that it a network printer problem. Prove it by attaching a
LOCAL printer and installing the printer driver. Now test.

I am not on a network. I only have a local printer. I have the same problem.

OK. Please clarify which envelope option you are referring to? Are you
talking about the Print button in the Envelope wizard?

OK. I am running a bit tired of "Temporarily unavailable" messages, so if
this post does not work that is my Microsoft friends.

I was talking about Mailings -> Envelopes "Print" button in Word 2007
(12.0.6504.5000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6425.1000) under Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP2
(6.0.6002).

Also, the button is greyed out only after I attempt to make changes to the
envelope's layout (specifically to change the size of the "Delivery Address"
box). When I select the box and change its size / position by dragging, then
click "Save" or "Change document within the "Envelopes" pop-up, the "Print"
button in the pop-up becomes greyed out.

If at this point I close Word and then re-open the document the "Print"
button is available again.

BTW, the changes to the size / position of the "Dlivery address" box never
stick, no matter how I save them. It always reverts to the default size.

The Envelope Address and Return Address are Word Styles. Try editing those
styles to achieve what you need. The best approach is to use the Add to
Document button and make sure that you have the 'Show Text Boundaries'
option checked. You can then see the default layout of an envelope. Both
address and return address are set out in Frames. Make your changes and
then Update the styles. Make sure to save changes to the global template
when you exit Word.

You should now find that your problem is resolved. However, I hate the
Envelope wizard, so what I do is to create and envelope (as above), delete
the pages below so that only the envelope is in the document (it will be
page 0) and then save this as a template. I've done that for my three usual
envelopes (A4, C5 and DL). I don't even use both Frames, I just use Vertical
Centring (Page Layout) with a 4.5 cm paragraph indent for the main address
and a Frame for the return address. It does mean you have to copy/paste
single addresses to the envelope, but it all seems much easier than fighting
the wizard! You can still use Mail Merge if you need many envelopes
addresses.
