I have a Dell inspiron 8100 with windows xp pro and word
xp. The computer has a synaptics touchpad which I have
configured to use the right side of the touchpad as a
scroll.(similar to a wheel on a mouse) This works fine
most of the time.

In word, if I put the cursor somewhere, make a change and
then try to scroll it will only go until the cursor makes
it to the top of the screen and then it stops. I have to
click somewhere else in order to continue scrolling.

If I put the cursor somewhere and do not make any changes
this problem does not occur. The reason I am posting
this in Word is because it is the only application where
I experience this problem. Has anyone experienced
something similar or know how to solve it?

Hi Steve,

I'm not sure if you have the update for the Synaptics touch pad but if your
laptop was setup using the same image as mine then you probably don't have it. I
don't know if that will correct this problem but it fixed several issues for me.

Updated the driver. Now I don't have the ability to
control any of the touchpad specific mouse properties
(like virtual scrolling or touch control) and the problem
still exists. I am taking the issue to symantec.
thanks for your help

Hmm... The latest driver on my end has all of the previous functionality and a
few additions.

Depending on your operating system you can rollback the driver to the previous
if that will help until the problem is resolved.
