Opening and closing word 2003

when I open word a box with a question in symbols that look Chinese comes up
and I have to hit ok to continue????

When I exit, I get ...Word cannot save or create this file. Make sure that
the disk you want to save the file on it is not full, write protected or
damage. (C:\Normal.dot). What does all of that mean. I can't exit till I try
clicking all kinds of buttons..
