The word 'lat' is not indicated as a misspelled word. It
is not a word that has been added to a custom
dictionary. We are on a network and I tried the word on
4 different computers logged in as different users. Lat
shows as correctly spelled for all users. I have checked
two different dictionaries and can not find the word. I
have personally never heard of the word lat except as an
abbreviation for Latin. How do I get rid of this word in
the Word dictionary. It can cause big problems in our
application. i.e. Last month...Lat month and can make
some secretaries look like real idiots. I appreciate
your help!

It really helps if you include details of your Word and Windows version in
posts. See http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/General/ExcludeWordFromDic.htm

www.dictionary.com :
lat n : a broad flat muscle on either side of the back
lat. abbr. latitude

There are other lat. abbreviations, like Latin, Latvian, ... which have a
period at the end, however the spell-checker doesn't notice punctuation at
the end of words.

Lat is an abbreviation for Latin and Latitude. Although for Latin it is
usual to use Lat., for latitude, lat is perfectly acceptable (small 'l' and
not capitalised).
